On July 21, 44 year-old serial bank robber Jeromee Wade Greenough was taken into custody by law enforcements officers after he robbed the TD Bank, located at 1000 SE U.S. Highway 19 in Crystal River, Florida. According to the CCSO, Greenough entered the bank, shortly before noon, and approached the tellers counter, demanding money while brandishing a firearm. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled in a white vehicle.
Deputies and detectives with the CCSO promptly responded to the bank to investigate the armed robbery and also contacted a partner agency, the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) to assist in locating the robbery suspect. Greenough was located, traveling on Fort Island Trail. When officials attempted to make contact with the suspect, he sped off, attempting to strike law enforcement with his vehicle, in an effort to avoid capture. Law enforcement officers deployed spike strips, which deflated the suspect's tires. After continuing to travel on the deflated tires, a FHP trooper successfully performed a pursuit intervention technique to further immobilize the vehicle.
Greenough exited his vehicle, armed with a rifle, and took off running toward a playground area when he was shot by a FHP trooper. None of the law enforcement officers were harmed. Greenough received immediate first aid on the scene of the shooting, and was then transported to a medical facility for treatment of his non-fatal injuries.
As with all law enforcement involved shootings in Florida, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will be investigating this incident.
Greenough will be charged with robbery with a firearm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and fleeing from and eluding law enforcement officers.

Crystal River, Florida - Shortly after 11:00 am on Thursday morning, July 21, 2022, the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) answered an alarm call at the TD Bank, located at 1000 SE U.S. Highway 19 in Crystal River. According to a witness, the suspect was armed and obtained an undisclosed amount of cash, and there were no customers at the bank at the time of the armed robbery.
The CCSO contacted the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) to assist in locating the suspect who had fled the scene. When a vehicle matching the description of the suspect's vehicle was spotted on West Fort Island Trail, in the area between N. Regatta Pt. and Fort Island Gulf Beach, a traffic stop was initiated by a FHP trooper, and during an armed encounter with the suspect, the trooper engaged the suspect, who suffered a non-fatal gunshot wound. The trooper was not injured during the encounter.
According to Sgt. Steve Gaskins, Public Affairs Officer with the FHP, the trooper has been placed on non-disciplinary administrative leave, pursuant to FHP policy, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) is the lead law enforcement agency responsible to independently investigate this incident, per the FHP's established procedure. "As the investigation is still active, no additional information will be released at this time," said Sgt. Gaskins.
"As soon as our team confirms the facts on what has transpired today," said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast, "we will release more information. In the meantime, please avoid the area between N. Regatta Pt and Fort Island Gulf Beach."
