Levy County, Florida - On Sunday, April 17, 2022, deputies with the Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) responded to NE 132nd Lane, north of Bronson, Florida, due to a report of a man who had been shot. Deputies arrived at the location to find a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his lower legs.
The victim told deputies that he'd been shot by 37 year-old Michael A. Huff at Huff's home in Trenton, Florida. The victim gave deputies directions to Huff's home. Deputies went to Huff's home and took him into custody. Deputies located a 0.40-caliber handgun at the residence.
Deputies learned that the victim and Mr. Huff had been involved in a fight, the previous night, Saturday, April 16, at a party.
Huff told deputies, that on Sunday, he saw the victim ride a motorcycle onto his property, and he went outside to confront him. He said that the victim attempted to run him over, and he then got off the motorcycle and approached him in an aggressive manner and he had shot the victim in self-defense.
The victim gave a statement to LCSO detectives at a local hospital, where he was being treated for his injuries. The victim said that he drove by Huff's home, and when Huff exited his home, he thought Huff wanted to patch things up from the night before, so he got off his motorcycle and began walking toward Huff, when Huff opened fire at him.
Detectives located spent shell casings from the 0.40-caliber handgun in two different areas of Huff’s front yard, which contradicted statements made by Huff that he was standing still when he began shooting, according to LCSO Lt. Scott Tummond.
Huff was placed under arrest, charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, and is being held in the Levy County Detention Bureau in Bronson, Florida with his bond set at $1,000,000.
