Bronson, Florida - On Friday, March 11, 2022, deputies and detectives with the Levy County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) responded to a home near Bronson, due to a 911 call reporting a shooting at the residence.

Upon their arrival, law enforcement officers found multiple spent rounds from a 0.40-caliber handgun had been fired from outside the home through a window into a bedroom, nearly striking the occupants who were lying in bed.

The occupants of the home identified 21 year-old Cole Langston, of Bronson, a person known to them, as a potential suspect. They gave detectives a description of the car owned by Langston and said they saw Langston’s vehicle parked on the side of the road in their neighborhood shortly before the shooting occurred.

Detectives issued a Be On the LookOut (BOLO) for Langston and his vehicle, which was spotted in Gainesville, Florida by a Gainesville Police Department (GPD) officer at The Polos of Gainesville apartment complex, located at 2330 SW Williston Rd. The police officer saw Langston go inside an apartment.

LCSO detectives, aware that Langston had custody of his two year-old child, and also that he had previously made statements of harming himself and the child, told GPD officers to use caution. The officers attempted to establish contact with Langston, inside the home, but he refused to come outside of the apartment. Meanwhile, the GPD's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team was standing by while negotiations were being made for Langston’s surrender, and after a one-hour standoff, Langston surrendered to police and was taken into custody.

Earlier the same morning, a warrant for Langston's arrest had been issued in Levy County, charging him with two counts of attempted murder. Langston was booked-in on the attempted murder charges at the Alachua County Sheriff's Office, Department of the Jail in Gainesville, with his bond set at $500,000.

Langston will be transferred to the Levy County Detention Bureau in Bronson where he will be held, awaiting trial.
