Chiefland man charged with attempted murder of Atlantic Beach, FL man

On February 9, 2022, at approximamtely 5:00 pm, detectives and deputies with the Levy County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a location in Chiefland, Florida due to the report of a shooting near the intersection of NW 137 Court and County Road 320, east of U.S. Highway 19.
Detectives learned that a 911 call had been placed by a female, who reported a suspicious man in her yard. The woman resides in the Manatee Farms subdivision west of U.S. Highway 19, off County Road 320. According to a press release, the woman confronted this man, and he allegedly made undisclosed disturbing comments to her. The woman then followed the man in her vehicle as he left the subdivision in his vehicle. As the woman followed the man, she called her brother who also resides in the general area.
The woman's brother, 41 year-old Jeffrey Madden, also of Chiefland, located his sister while she was still following the suspicious man. Mr. Madden attempted to force the man off the road and then rammed his truck into the man's vehicle, causing it to crash. According to witness testomony, the press release stated, Madden exited his truck, armed with a handgun, and opened fire on the man.
Deputies took Madden into custody and rendered aid to the victim, a 65 year old man from Atlantic Beach, Florida, who was transported by ambulance for medical care wih a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his head.
Madden was interviewed by detectives and later booked into the Levy County Detention Bureau, charged with attempted felony murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, with his bond set at $1.5 million.
