Citrus County School Year: Two Options Offered
In preparation for the 2020-21 school year, we ask that families select one of the options below by completing or updating the necessary forms. Students may remain enrolled in their brick-and-mortar school, or they may enroll in Citrus Virtual School Full-Time. Please review the chart below before making your decision. Note: During an emergency meeting of the Citrus County School Board on Wednesday, July 22, 2020, board members approved both of Superintendent Sam Himmel's recommendations of moving the student start date to Thursday, August 20th and face coverings for all students and staff on school buses and while on school campuses when social distancing is not feasible. Reminder: face coverings are only for 3rd-12th grade students.
OPTION 1: ON-CAMPUS; Brick-and-Mortar (Traditional)
This model represents a return to the school campus and the classroom where students will interact directly with their teacher(s) and classmates. The school day will follow the standard bell times and standard schedule that includes all the core classes and other subject areas. Our goal is to create an environment that provides an opportunity for students to return to the traditional school experience, while providing effective safeguards to protect the health and safety of students and staff.
• Recommend use of masks/face coverings (masks/face coverings are optional)
• Practice safe social distancing to the greatest extent possible
• Post signage and provide lessons to strongly encourage frequent hand washing and hygiene practices
• Ensure hand sanitizer is available throughout the campus and on school buses
• Enhance cleaning protocols
• Limit large group gatherings and
• Limit non-essential visitors/volunteers
• Limit field trips to internal sites only
• Ensure any staff or students who exhibit symptoms are not at school or in the workplace
OPTION 2: CITRUS VIRTUAL SCHOOL
Citrus Virtual School is a full-time virtual school experience for students/families who do not feel comfortable returning to on-campus learning. This learning model allows students to work on assignments during non-traditional hours and maintain contact with their teacher and classmates using web-based class sessions, email, text messages, and phone calls. Citrus Virtual School will utilize the Florida Virtual curriculum. Citrus Virtual School may not be accessible for some students with disabilities and the appropriateness will be determined on a case-by-case basis. Comparable programming will be available for students with disabilities when Citrus Virtual School is not an appropriate option.
Citrus Virtual School offers courses for students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade and is supported by a team of Citrus County teachers.
Enrollment requires a semester-long or year-long commitment, as well as an adult who can partner with Citrus Virtual teachers by serving as the learning guide for the student. Because Citrus Virtual School is a public-school choice, students must participate in all required state assessments, and may take part in extracurricular clubs, activities, and athletics with their zoned school.
