Two killed in truck/motorcycle crash on SR 200 in Marion County
Marion County, Florida - A crash that occurred at 9:10 pm on Thursday, May 27, resulted in the death of two people riding a motorcycle and minor injuries to the driver of a pickup truck. The crash occurred on State Road 200, north of SW 147 Lane, in Dunnellon (Marion County), Florida
According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck, driven by a 56 year-old man from Hernando, Florida, was traveling south on State Road 200, and the motorcycle, driven by a 38 year-old man from Weirsdale, Florida, was traveling north on State Road 200, when the pickup truck entered the north lane to pass traffic at a high rate of speed and struck the motorcycle head-on, causing the two people on the motorcycle to sustain fatal injuries at the scene of the crash; the passenger on the motorcycle was a 31 year-old woman from Weirsdale, Florida. The press release stated that neither of the motorcycle passengers was wearing a helmet.
According to the press release, the driver of the pickup truck, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida with minor injuries.
State Road 200, in the area of the crash, was closed for investigation and clean up, from 9:10 pm (May 27) until 3:00 am (May 28), when it reopened to traffic.
