James W. Parkerson, II, 52, of Homosassa, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff's Office at 4:41 am, July 11, following an incident that occurred at Nature's Resort RV Park, located at 10359 W. Halls River Rd. in Homosassa. Deputies were dispatched to the location, with the report of a shooting at the resort's Marina Bar. Upon arrival, deputies detained Mr. Parkerson, and recovered the firearm.
The victim told a deputy that he saw Mr. Parkerson and another person get into a physical confrontation in the parking lot, just outside the bar. He said the two parties separated and Mr. Parkerson and his girlfriend got into a 2002 black Chevrolet truck, with the girlfriend in the driver's seat and Mr. Parkerson on the passenger side.
The victim told deputies that the bar manager directed him to block the Mr. Parkerson's truck from leaving because law enforcement was on their way to the bar, that Parkerson was trespassing, and a battery had occurred on the property.
He said he parked his brown 1995 Ford truck behind Parkerson's truck, to block him from leaving the parking lot. He said that Parkerson's girlfriend was able to drive forward, and attempted to drive around his truck, so he repositioned his vehicle. He said Parkerson exited the Chevrolet truck and stood approximately six feet away from the grill of the victim's Ford truck and raised his arm while holding a small firearm in his right hand. The victim said that he laid down inside his vehicle as Parkerson fired the first round, which missed him, but hit the driver's side roof support pillar.
He said he then drove his truck forward, attempting to strike Mr. Parkerson, to stop him from shooting again, but he missed him, and when his truck stopped, Parkerson was standing next to his window, pointing a firearm at him. The victim told the deputy that Mr. Parkerson fired a second shot, and he (the victim) then backed up his truck to block the parking lot exit. However, the deputy reported that an examination of the gun revealed that only one of five rounds had been fired from the gun.
About this time, a boy, a minor child, was riding his bicycle down the road near the parking lot, unaware that a shooting had just occurred. The report stated, based on the position of Parkerson's vehicle, which was partially in the roadway, the child had to have ridden past Mr. Parkerson as he was standing by the driver's door of his vehicle. The child told deputies, as he rode his bicycle past Mr. Parkerson, Parkerson pointed the firearm at at him and said something to the effect of, "Get out of here. I have a gun." The boy reported the incident to his family, which in turn, reported it to law enforcement.
A deputy reported, that based on the information obtained at the scene, Parkerson was placed under arrest. He was charged with improper exhibition of a firearm, child abuse without causing great bodily harm, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, and attempted premeditated murder ($10,000 bond).
