Glen William Colyer, 71, of Homosassa, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, June 19, as the result of an altercation with a deputy who was directing traffic due to a traffic crash at the intersection of W. Rosedale Dr. and S. Anatole Way in Homosassa.
The incident began when the deputy noticed that a white conversion van was pulling a recreational vehicle (RV) with an insufficient tow strap and informed the driver that he would have to contact a tow company to tow the RV.
While the driver was speaking with the deputy, the report stated, Mr. Colyer, a passenger inside the van, made his way to the rear of the van, unhooked the RV from the hitch, removed the license plate from the van, then made his way to the driver's seat of the van.
The deputy's initial impression was that Colyer was planning to push the RV off the road, but instead, the deputy reported, Colyer sped directly toward her, so she raised her hand and yelled for Colyer to stop the vehicle, but he cursed her and told her he was going home, then intentionally struck her with the front left side of his van, making contact with her gun belt, causing her to stumble, then drove away, yelling out of the van's window that he was going home.
A short time later, another deputy located the van and Mr. Colyer at the intersection of S. Slash Pine Ave. and W. Green Acres St. in Homosassa and conducted a traffic stop.
The first deputy arrived on scene. She reported that she read Mr. Colyer his Miranda Rights, and Mr. Colyer told her that he didn't understand them and refused to speak with her.
The deputy learned that Mr. Colyer's driver's license had been suspended or revoked. He was charged with driving while license knowingly suspended or revoked, and aggravated battery of a law enforcement officer ($5,500 bond). He was also issued a traffic citation for the driver's license offense.
