Homosassa, Florida - Tyler Grimison, a 31 year-old man from Homosassa, was arrested by the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) for his alleged involvement in a road rage and shooting incident that occurred on March 5, 2024, on U.S. Highway 19 (S. Suncoast Blvd.) in Homosassa.
According to the Citrus County Sheriff's Office, on March 5, the victim was driving north in the outside (right) lane of U.S. Highway 19, when a man - later determined to be Grimison - intentionally swerved into and struck the victim's vehicle on the passenger side. Immediately after the sideswiping crash occurred, the victim heard a low-tone booming sound, believed to be the sound of a gunshot. When the victim realized his/her vehicle had been struck by a projectile, out of fear, he/she briefly lost control of the vehicle. The suspect's vehicle drove on the right shoulder of the roadway to pass the victim's vehicle.
The victim described the suspect as a white male in his mid-thirties with a trimmed brown beard, driving a newer model (2017 to 2022) Jeep with black rims and a Florida license plate with an unknown number.
Detective Michael Kelly of the CCSO's Major Crimes Unit began an investigation into the incident. He reviewed video surveillance within the area of the incident that captured both the suspect's and the victim's vehicles. Detective Kelly obtained still shots from the video and issued a BOLO (Be On the Lookout) for the suspect and his vehicle.
Thanks to an anonymous tip and the surveillance video, Detective Kelly determined that Grimison was a possible suspect. Grimison agreed to meet with Detective Kelly at a location in Crystal River, Florida. Probable cause for Grimison's arrest was established, and a search warrant was issued for detectives to search his residence. During the search of Grimison's residence, a firearm was seized that is believed to be the firearm used in the road rage shooting incident.
Grimison was placed under arrest, charged with shooting into an occupied conveyance, discharging a firearm in public, and criminal mischief. He is in custody at the Citrus County Detention Facility in Lecanto, Florida; his bond was set at none.
"We appreciate the public's assistance, and the diligent work of Detective Kelly, in bringing this dangerous situation to a swift resolution," said Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast. "Road rage incidents can escalate quickly and have tragic consequences. Our agency takes these incidents very seriously and will continue to dedicate resources to investigate and hold offenders accountable."
