U.S. Coast Guard Station, Yankeetown, Florida

On Thursday morning, March 6, 2025, a groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new U.S. Coast Guard Station that will be constructed on the north bank of the Cross Florida Barge Canal in Citrus County, Florida.

The new facility, expected to be completed by summer of 2026, will be a two-story, 20,000 square feet building, constructed at an estimated cost of $45 million. The building will be built on higher ground than the current station, and will include crew facilities, a boat maintenance bay and covered boat parking to accommodate the station's 45-foot medium response and 29-foot small response boats, along with a boat ramp and waterfront facilities.

The current U.S. Coast Guard Station, located at 5800 Riverside Drive in Yankeetown, Florida, suffered heavy damages during Hurricane Michael, a Category 5 hurricane that made landfall near Mexico Beach, Florida on October 10, 2018.

The new building is will be able to withstand hurricane force winds up to 150 mph (Category 4).
