Crystal River youth, attending college in Montana, dies as a result of Sat. shooting

Chandler Wyatt Stalcup, 18, of Crystal River, Florida, died on Monday October 30, 2023, as the result of being shot, early Saturday morning, October 28, in Billings Montana, where he was a freshman student at Rocky Mountain College. Stalcup was kept on life support until his organs were harvested for donation, according to the Yellowstone County (Montana) Coroner’s Office.
According to Lieutenant Matt Lennick with the Billings (Montana) Police Department (BPD), Stalcup had gone to the party to pick up someone, when an altercation occurred between he and the suspects. At 2:54 a.m. on Saturday, BPD officers were responding to a call in the 1400 block of Avenue C, when they received another call that a person had been shot in the 900 block of Poly Drive. Stalcup and the other youths had left the party in separate vehicles, and a short time later, Stalcup was shot on Poly Drive, near campus.
A 16 year-old male was arrested, about six hours later, who faces a charge of deliberate homicide. A 17 year-old male was arrested on Monday, October 30, who faces a charge of suspicion of accountability to deliberate homicide. Both suspects were remanded into youth custody.
Stalcup graduated from Crystal River High School, May 24, 2023.
According to GoBattlinBears.com, Stalcup was a defensive lineman for the Rocky Mountain College, Battlin' Bears football team. He had played in one game this season. Rocky Mountain College is in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) athletic association in the Frontier Conference.
