On Saturday, June 3, 2023, about 12:45 pm, deputies with the Citrus County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) responded to a call for service on NE 10th St. in Crystal River, Florida due to the report of a suspicious device at the location.

Deputies, along with the agency's Bomb Team, went to the property, closed off the roadway, and confirmed that the device was a homemade explosive device. The Bomb Team's robot retrieved the device, rendered it safe, and transported it away to be destroyed.

The road was reopened to traffic, shortly before 2:00 pm, after it was determined there was no further threat to public safety.

The photo, provided by the CCSO, shows what appears to be a box with an open lid, in the street, near a mailbox and a driveway.
