Inverness home a total loss by fire sparked by firework entering home

Inverness, Florida -  At 9:11 pm on Monday evening, July 4, 2022, Citrus County Fire Rescue responded to a S. Buckley Pt., Inverness residence to find a double wide mobile home 50% involved with flames. Firefighters confirmed that all residents had safely evacuated the home and established a defensive attack to stop the fire from spreading to neighboring houses. Power was secured at the breaker, and the power company arrived on scene to secure power at the source.

The homeowner explained to firefighters he and his wife had been setting off fireworks in the roadway, and he believes that one firework had possibly tipped over, gone through the front porch screen and into a bedroom window. He said that they heard the home's smoke detectors sounding, went inside to investigate, and found the bedroom on fire, then exited the home and contacted 911. The homeowner said that the home is insured, but the policy documents were inside the home.  

The fire was under control as of 9:36 pm, and the last unit cleared the scene at 11:38 pm. The residence was a total loss.The Florida State Fire Marshal’s Office determined that the fire was accidental. No injuries were reported. 
  
Firefighters from the Highlands, Hernando, Citrus Springs, and Floral City fire stations responded to the scene to assist with extinguishment of the fire.
