Shortly after 2:30 pm, Tuesday, Nov. 9, a small airplane, a 1967 Beechcraft V35 Bonanza owned by Jerry's Kids Aviation, LLC of Wilmington, DE, crashed into the Gulf of Mexico, about a half mile off the coast, between North Key and Dead Man’s Key. The airplane had just taken off from the George T. Lewis Airport in Cedar Key, Florida.

"The plane lost power shortly after take off and made an emergency landing in the water," said Lt. Scott Tummond with the Levy County Sheriff's Office.

The pilot, who was the only occupant of the airplane, was spotted climbing out of the plane and standing on the fuselage as rescuers neared him. He was not injured in the crash.

Numerous agencies on scene included the Cedar Key Police and Fire Departments, Levy County Sheriff’s Office, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, along with two other agencies which were offshore from Cedar Key conducting joint marine operations: the Citrus County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Impact Unit and the Air and Marine Operations Tampa Marine Unit

The Federal Aviation Administration will take over the investigation.
