Inverness, FL - To assist trail users by providing a more defined construction zone between crossroads, an additional stretch of the Withlacoochee State Trail was closed on Tuesday, January 26. Combined with the portion that was closed Monday, approximately 1.3 miles of the trail is now closed from E. David Street to E. Norvell Bryant Highway. Just over six tenths of a mile of the trail will be reconstructed in the closed area, which is expected to reopen to users in 4 to 6 weeks. Besides preventing users from having to U-Turn on the trail away from crossroads, combining the two segments may also result in slightly decreasing overall project construction time.
The public is restricted from entering the closed area from either end 24-hours per day during the closure period. No detours are provided; trail users will need to turn around at the closure sites or seek alternate routes using public roads.
Construction work on the closed section includes removing existing asphalt, rebuilding the trail base, and repaving. The elevation will also be raised slightly to improve standing water issues.
