Inverness, Florida - A 45 year-old Inverness woman delivering pizzas to an Inverness residence died as the result of a hit and run crash that occurred on Thursday evening, February 25, at 7:20 pm.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the pizza delivery driver had parked her vehicle, a sports utility vehicle ("SUV"), in the driveway, and partially in the roadway, of a residence located at 6001 S. Cascade Ave.

The delivery woman was outside of her vehicle, in an attempt to deliver pizzas, and her passenger side door was open. An unidentified vehicle traveling north on S. Cascade Ave., near E. Penrose St., struck the delivery woman and her SUV's open door, and then fled from the scene of the crash.

The injured woman, whose name was not released due to Marsy's Law, Florida's victim protection law, was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala, FL, where she later expired from injuries suffered during the crash.
