Marion County, Florida - A pedestrian, an 80 year-old Ocala man, was seriously injured at 6:37 pm on Wednesday evening, Feb. 3, when he was struck by a vehicle on U.S. Highway 41, at SW 86th Street, in Ocala, Florida.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a 46 year-old Inverness man was driving a 1992 Chevrolet tank truck, traveling north on U.S. Highway 41, approaching the intersection with SW 86th Street as the pedestrian was returning to his vehicle, a 2011 Nissan Juke subcompact sport utility vehicle that had broken down on the east shoulder of U.S. Highway 41. When the pedestrian attempted to cross the roadway, he walked into the path of the truck, and was struck by the front of the truck. The truck and the pedestrian both came to rest on the east shoulder of the road.

The pedestrian was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida with serious injuries.
Neither the driver of the truck, now his 46 year old female passenger, also of Inverness, were injuried, and each was wearing a seatbelt, according to the press release.

The FHP no longer gives the names of people involved in traffic crashes in its press releases, citing Marsy's Law, Florida's victim protection law, as the reason.
