Levy County, Florida - A 57 year-old woman from Williston, Florida, driving a sedan, was killed as the result of a crash with a tractor/trailer rig driven by a 62 year-old man from Bronson, Florida, who was not injured during the crash. The crash occurred on Monday afternoon, Feb. 8, at 1:20 pm in Williston, at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 27 Alternate and NE 147th Court.
Both vehicles were traveling on U.S, Hwy. 27 Alternate, heading in opposite directions, both approaching the intersection with NE 147th Court. The sedan was traveling west, in the left turn lane to turn onto NE 147th Court, and the tractor/trailer was traveling east, in the right travel lane. Accordding to a press release, the sedan failed to yield right of way to the tractor/trailer as it entered the eastbound travel lanes of U.S. Hwy. 27 Alternate in front of the tractor/trailer, and the front of the tractor/trailer collided with the right side of the sedan. The tractor/trailer traveled off of the roadway to the right, with the sedan wedged into the tractor's front, and came to rest facing south against the front of the sedan, which also came to rest facing south; the trailer section overturned onto its right side.
The release stated that both drivers wore a seatbelt and neither carried a passenger.
Citing Marsy's Law (Florida's victim privacy law), the FHP no longer gives the names of passengers or specific models of vehicles in its press releases regarding traffic crashes.
