Crystal River (Citrus County), Florida - An 80 year-old Inglis man expired, and a 63 year-old Crystal River woman suffered serious injuries, as the result of a traffic crash that occurred at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, Dec. 30, in northern Crystal River. The crash occurred on U.S. Hwy. 19, at the intersection of W. Dunnellon Rd (CR 488) in Crystal River

According to the Florida Highwap Patrol (FH:P), each of the two drivers was the only ocupant of their vehicle, and they each drove a sports utility vehicle (SUV). The woman was traveling south on US 19, while the man was traveling north on US 19. At the intersection with CR 488, the woman's vehicle turned left into the path of the man's vehicle, and as a result, the front of the woman's SUV collided with the left side of the man's SUV.

After the impact, the woman's SUV came to rest within the intersection as the man's SUV rotated, then ovrturned, onto the eastern grass shoulder. The Inglis man was transported fo an area hospital, but he later expired from injuries sustained during the crash.

The press release stated that the woman was wearing her seatbelt, but the man was not.

In its press releases, the FHP no longer identifies the people or the specific models of vehicles involved in traffic crashes, citing Marsy's Law (Florida's victim protection law) as the reason.
