Homosassa, Florida - A 43 year-old man from Homosassa, FL was struck by a vehicle while he was jogging in south Homosassa, and died on the scene from injuries he sustained during the incident, which occurred at 3:15 pm on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 29, 2020.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the man was jogging on the eastern shoulder of the southbound lanes of U.S. Hwy. 19 (S. Suncoast Blvd.), just south of West Huey Path. The area is also slightly south of the intersection with U.S. Hwy. 98 (W. Ponce De Leon Blvd.).

The vehicle, a Lincoln MKZ sedan, was driven by Janis Marie Bressan-Stacey, 65, of Homosassa, and was traveling south in the outside southbound lane. The press release stated that the vehicle failed to maintain its lane of travel, veered off the roadway and struck the pedestrian on the shoulder of the roadway. During the night, according to a press release, Ms. Bressan-Stacey was arrested on a charge of DUI (driving under the influence) manslaughter

The name of the jogger was not released, as the FHP no longer identifies the people involved in traffic crashes in its press releases, citing Marsy's Law, Florida's victim protection law, as the reason.
