UPDATED Nov. 25: Second man charged with firing shots at FHP trooper in downtown Ocala, FL

A traffic stop conducted by an alert Gainesville Police Officer in east Alachua County on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020 at 2:31 am, resulted in the arrest of David Le-Otis James, 35, of Starke, FL, who is accused of firing multiple shots at a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper as he fled from a traffic stop in downtown Ocala, FL, shortly after 3:00 pm the previous day (Nov. 19). 

A FHP press release stated, that on Nov. 19, the trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a silver Nissan as it exited a parking garage, and when the tropper ordered the driver, later identified as Mr. James, to stop, he fled the scene at a high rate of speed and fired numerous shots at the trooper while he was in pursuit of Mr. James and the vehicle. The trooper, who was not harmed, eventually lost sight of the Nissan.

James was booked into the Alachua County Jail in Gainesville, FL on an outstanding Marion County warrant, along with charges by the Ocala Police Department, and charges by the FHP, which include aggravated fleeing and eluding, and principle to attempted murder.

The FHP is attempting to identify and locate the passenger who was inside the silver Nissan with Mr. James during the Nov. 19, Ocala incident.

UPDATE, as of November 25, 2020:  The passenger inside the silver Nissan with Mr. James has been identified as: Fashawn Micquiel King, 20, of Ocala. He was arrested by the Ocala Police Department on an outstanding arrest warrant on Saturday November 21, and incarcerated at the Marion County Jail in Ocala. FHP investigators additionally charged Mt. King with attempted second degree murder of a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm while engaged in a criminal offense and discharging a firearm in public from a vehicle.
