Citrus County, Florida - Shelby Gabrielle Collazo, 25, of Beverly Hills, FL was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol as the result of a single vehicle traffic crash in which her 3 year-old daughter was killed, Ms. Collazo suffered minor injuries, and her other four passengers were seriously injured.
Ms. Collazo's six passengers included herself, a 40 year-old man, a 15 year-old girl, and a 16 year-old boy, all from Hernando, FL; a 16 year-old girl from Beverly Hills, and Mr. Collazo's 3 year-old daughter, from Beverly Hills.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, the crash occurred at 1:36 am, Sunday morning, Oct. 11, 2020, as Ms. Collazo was driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV), traveling north on North Jill Avenue in Citrus Hills. When she reached a right curve at the intersection of West Cave Court, she failed to negotiate the roadway and continued north, departing from the roadway and colliding, head-on, with a tree. The only passenger who was secured with a seatbelt was the 15 year old girl from Hernando.
Ms. Collazo was charged with 1 count of manslaughter, 4 counts of child neglect, 4 counts of driving under the influence (DUI) with serious injury, and 1 count of DUI with property damage. Ms. Collazo was incarcerated at the Citrus County Detention Facility in Lecanto, FL, with her bond set at $130,000.
