Dunnellon motorcyclist killed, west of Ocala, in crash with dump truck

A traffic crash that occurred at 6:40 am on Friday, Oct. 9, west of Ocala, FL, on SR 40 at SW 113th Terrace, between a 1991 model dump truck and a 2003 Honda motorcycle, killed the 45 year-old Dunnellon man who was the driver and sole passenger of the motorcycle.

According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol, 
the dump truck, which was driven by a 57 year-old Ocala man,  was facing west on the north shoulder of SR 40, just east of SW 113th Ter. and crossed over the westbound lanes of SR 40, during an attempt to make a U-turn to travel eastbound, and entered into the path of the motorcycle, whicle was traveling west on SR 40, and resulted in the motorcycle colliding into the left side of the dump truck. 

The motorcyclist, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced deceased on scene. The truck driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injuried during the crash. 

The westbound lanes of SR 40 were blocked for several hours during the initial portion of the investigation, which is ongoing.
