Girl dies after striking tractor-trailer rig improperly parked on US 19 in Fanning Springs

Fanning Springs (Levy County), Florida -- A 16 year-old girl from Chiefland, Florida died as the result of a traffic crash that occurred in Fanning Springs on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 at 9:03 a.m. The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 19, at NW 160th Street.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the girl was driving a sedan, traveling north in the right (outside) northbound lane of U.S. Highway 19, and was unable to slow or stop in time to avoid striking a tractor/trailer rig that was improperly parked, facing north, blocking the right travel lane of U.S. Highway 19.
As a result, the front of the girl's sedan struck the rear of the tractor-trailer rig, which did not move from the initial area of the collision. After the impact, the sedan rotated in a counter-clockwise direction and came to rest in the right lane of U.S. Highway 19, facing northwest, with its front right against the rear of the tractor-trailer rig
The girl driving the sedan, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the tractor-trailer rig, a 56 year-old man from Tampa, Florida, was not injured during the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt.
