Crystal River man killed in Alachua County crash; 3 others critically injured

Alachua County, Florida - A man from Crystal River, Florida died and three people were critically injured as the result of a two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred late Sunday afternoon, April 27, 2025  in northwest Alachua County. The crash occurred on County Road 235, at NW 204th Street, between the towns of Newberry and Alachua.

About 6:04 pm, the Florida Highway Patrol responded to the location of the two-vehicle, head-on collision between a sedan and a sport utility vehicle (SUV). 

The investigation revealed that the at-fault driver, a 35 year-old man from Old Town, Florida, who was the single occupant of the sedan, was traveling south and passed another vehicle on a double yellow, no passing zone, crashing head-on into the SUV.

All four occupants of the two vehicles were transported to UF Shand's Hospital in Gainesville, Florida with critical injuries. The right front passenger of the SUV, a 61 year-old man from Crystal River, Florida, was declared deceased at UF Shand's Hospital. The driver of the SUV, a  42 year-old woman from Alachua, Florida, and a 14 year-old girl passenger, also from Alachua, Florida, were both critically injured.

The FHP press release stated that each of the four passengers involved in the two-vehicle crash was wearing a seatbelt.

County Road 235 was closed for several hours for state troopers to conduct the crash investigation, which is ongoing.
