Female passenger dies in head-on, Lecanto, FL crash; both drivers injured, one seriously

Lecanto, Florida - On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, an 18 year-old woman from Citrus Springs, Florida died as the result of a traffic crash that occurred in Lecanto at 10:20 p.m. The woman was a passenger inside a Honda Civic sedan, driven by a 17 year-old male from Lecanto, who suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital.
The driver of the other vehicle, a Toyota RAV4 sport utility vehicle (SUV), was a 41 year-old man from Lecanto, who suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.
According to the Florida HIghway Patrol, the Toyota RAV4 SUV was traveling in an eastbound direction on E. Stage Coach Trail. West of South Trail 9, the SUV driver failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, and the SUV traveled onto the south shoulder of the roadway. The driver over-corrected the steering, which resulted in the SUV traveling, eastbound, into the westbound travel lane, and colliding nearly head-on with the Honda Civic that was traveling west in the westbound lane of E. Stage Coach Trail.
