At 1:20 am on Monday, March 17, 2025, a dump truck (commercial motor vehicle or CMV) had a mishap with an overpass on Interstate 75 in Sumter County, Florida.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the dump truck was driven by a 56 year-old man from Ocala, Florida, who reported no injuries as a result of the dump truck striking the overpass.

The driver was traveling north in the northbound lanes of Intestate 75 near the 333.5 milepost, west of Wildwood, Florida, and had inadvertently left the bed of the dump truck in a raised position. While the dump truck was passing under the County Road 475 overpass, the raised truck bed struck the overpass, sheared off from the truck, and became lodged under the overpass, while the body of the truck continued traveling until it came to rest, just north of the point where the truck bed impacted the overpass.

Engineers with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) arrived at the location to inspect the overpass, and the roadways were deemed safe for travel at approximately 8:15 a.m.
