Teacher dies as result of CR 490, Lecanto, FL crash with dump truck; her three children hospitalized

Lecanto, Florida - A 50 year-old woman from Homosassa, Florida - later identified as Crystal Jackson, a Social Studies teacher at Lecanto Middle School, and a former paraprofessional at Lecanto High School - died as the result of a crash that occurred as the result of a dump truck making a turn into her path of travel. The woman's three passengers, her children, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the dump truck was not injured.
The crash occurred on Wednesday morning, March 12, 2025, at 7:03 am, on West Homosassa Trail (County Road 490) in Lecanto, Florida.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 34 year-old man from Ocala, Florida was driving a dump truck, traveling west on West Homosassa Trail. As the dump truck driver attempted to turn left onto 4816 West Homosassa Trail in Lecanto, he entered into the path of the Dodge minivan, driven by the woman from Homosassa, who was traveling east on West Homosassa Trail, which resulted in her minivan striking the dump truck
Ms. Jackson suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash. Her children, two daughters, ages 15 and 16, and her 12 year-old son, were transported to area hospitals.
