One person dead and one seriously injured, as result of Sept. 20, Lecanto crash

A two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred in Lecanto, Florida on Sunday afternoon, Sept. 20, at 3:40 pm, took the life of one driver, Driver 1, a 66 year-old Hernando, Florida man, and resulted in serious injuries to the other driver, Driver 2, a 28 year-old Venice, Florida man. 

According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the crash occurred at the intersection of SR  44 and S. Bauer Rd., both vehicles involved in the crash were sedans, and neither driver carried a passenger. 

The press release stated that Driver 1's vehicle was traveling south on S. Bauer Rd., approaching SR 44, while Driver 2's vehicle was traveling west on SR 44, approaching S. Bauer Rd. At the intersection, Driver 1 failed to yield to Driver 2, and as a result, Driver 2's vehicle collided with the driver's side of Driver 1's vehicle. 

Transported to an area hospital, Driver 1, who was wearing a seatbelt, later expired from injuries sustained during the crash, while Driver 2, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious injuries. 

No further details were available. Citing Marsy's Law as the reason, the FHP no longer gives identifying details of passengers or vehicles in press releases.
