Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), 11:21 am, Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024

Sugarmill Woods, Homosassa, Florida - As of Thursday morning, December 19, 2024, both westbound lanes of U.S. Highway 98 are closed - from W. Oak Park Boulevard to just east of the Shoppes of Sugarmill Woods (slightly east of US 19) due to depressions in the roadway.

During the past few weeks, road crews have been working to repair the right, westbound lane of US 98 in this area. This morning, a depression developed in the left lane, resulting in the closure of both westbound lanes.

It is not known when one of the lanes can be reopened, but updates will be provided as information becomes available. Meanwhile, it is planned for crews to work around-the-clock on the repairs to reopen at least one westbound lane of US 98 in this area. Until then, traffic will be detoured around the closed area.

To avoid delays through the detour, drivers should consider alternate routes, especially the drivers of large trucks,as the detour route (see below) is on county roads and includes two left turns.

DETOUR: Traffic is being routed onto W Oak Park Boulevard/County Road 480 (about four tenths of a mile east of US 19). Approximately three tenths of a mile north of US 98, drivers turn left onto W. Oak Park Lane and go west about three tenths of a mile, then turn left onto W Oak Park Boulevard immediately before entering the Shoppes of Sugarmill Woods. The detour continues south about one tenth of a mile on W. Oak Park Boulevard to rejoin US 98. Turn right onto US 98 to access US 19.

This closure/detour is part of a project that is resurfacing US 98 from the Hernando County line to US 19. For information related to this project, click here: https://www.fdottampabay.com/project/1019/440250-1-52-01.
