Crystal River man dies after crash on CR 488 in Dunnellon

Dunnellon (Citrus County), Florida - A 51 year-old man from Crystal River, Florida died as the result of a traffic crash that occurred at 10:48 am on Saturday morning, October 19, 2024, in Dunnellon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 51 year-old Crystal River man was driving a Ford Focus compact car, traveling east on County Road 488 (West Dunnellon Road), west of North Rock Avenue, when he unsuccessfully attempted to overtake and pass another vehicle in a no passing zone. As a result, his vehicle collided with a Toyota 4Runner sport utility vehicle (SUV), driven by a 94 year-old man from Clearwater, Florida, that was traveling west on County Road 488 (West Dunnellon Road). 

Both drivers suffered injuries and were transported to area hospitals. The man from Crystal River later expired at the hospital from injuries he suffered during the crash.
