Segment of Withlacoochee State Trail in Inverness has reopened, second segment to close Oct. 7

Inverness (Citrus County), Florida -- A segment of the Withlacoochee State Trail reopened Friday, October 4, 2024 after being closed for construction since August 14, 2024. The reopened section is from mile marker 27 (south of the Fort Cooper Trailhead) to mile marker 28.58 (Eden Drive) in Inverness.
The construction work is part of a $1.3 million project to resurface portions of the trail in Citrus County. Construction is taking place in segments, with one segment area of the trail closed at a time. Each segment will be closed around-the-clock for up to several weeks.
Segment 2 is planned to close for construction beginning Monday, October 7, 2024. Segment 2 is from mile marker 28.59 to mile marker 28.95 (Eden Drive to just north of Mossy Oak Drive) in Inverness. It is expected to reopen in late October.
