Electric biker dies, his passenger seriously injured, in Brooksville crash with SUV at trail crossing

Brooksville, Florida - At 8:35 pm on Saturday, September 21, 2024 a two vehicle crash involving an electric bike and a Chevy Trailblazer, a mid-size sports utility vehicle (SUV), resulted in the death of the bike driver, a 42 year-old man from Brooksville, and serious injuries to his passenger, an unidentified adult female. The driver of the SUV, a 21 year-old man from Inverness, Florida, was not injured during the incident.
The crash occurred on the Nature Coast Trail, near the intersection of Highfield Road in Brooksville.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the electric bike was traveling south on the Nature Coast Trail approaching a posted stop sign near the intersection with Highfield Road. At the trail crossing, the rider failed to stop, and entered the path of the SUV that was traveling west on Highfield Road, which resulted in the SUV striking the electric bike.
The bike driver was transported to an area hospital where he later expired from his injuries. His passenger suffered serious injuries and was also transported to an area hospital.
