Inverness motorcyclist dies after fiery crash in Hudson; the other driver charged with DUI manslaughter

A two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred at 1:10 am on Sunday, September 8, 2024 in Hudson, Florida resulted in the death of a 21 year-old man from Inverness, Florida.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 25 year-old woman from Hudson, Florida was driving a Chevrolet Impala car, traveling north on U.S. Highway 19.
The Inverness man was driving a Kawasaki motorcycle, traveling south on U.S. Highway 19.
At the intersection of Sea Ranch Drive, the woman driving the Chevrolet Impala made a left turn - under a flashing yellow left turn signal, into the path of the motorcycle.
As a result, the motorcycle collided with the right side of the car and caught fire.
The motorcyclist was transported to an area hospital where he later expired from injuries suffered during the crash.
The driver of the car, Melissa Annette Lopez, was later arrested by Florida Highway Patrol troopers and delivered to the Pasco County Jail, located in Land O Lakes, Florida. Lopez was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) manslaughter, driving under the influence with property damage, and driving a vehicle with no driver's license involving a death.
