Two killed, two critically injured in two-vehicle crash on US 41 in Dunnellon

Dunnellon (Marion County), Florida - A two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred on Friday afternoon, August 2, 2024, resulted in the death of two people and critical injuries to two others. The crash occurred at 4:50 pm on U.S. Highway 41, at NW 13th Street, in Dunnellon.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck, driven by a 54 year-old man from Dunnellon, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 41 and went off the roadway to the right. The driver lost control of the vehicle, which began to rotate while traveling toward the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 41 and a sedan, driven by a 51 year-old woman from Beverly Hills, Florida, that was traveling south on U.S. Highway 41. As a result, the right side of the pickup truck struck the front of the sedan. 

After the impact, the pickup truck came to rest obstructing the southbound lane of U.S. Highway 41, and the sedan came to final rest on the west shoulder of U.S. Highway 41, facing south.

During the crash, An occupant of the pickup truck, a 55 year-old woman from Dunnellon, was ejected from the vehicle; she was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash by Marion County Fire Rescue. The driver of the pickup truck was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital in Ocala, Florida with critical injuries. Neither of the two occupants of the pickup truck was wearing a seatbelt.

The two passengers of the sedan, both female, were also transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital in Ocala, the driver with critical injuries. Her passenger, a 16 year-old girl from Beverly Hills, was later pronounced deceased by hospital staff.
