Crystal River woman dies as the result of a head-on crash on CR 488 in Dunnellon

Dunnellon, Florida - A 27 year-old woman from Crystal River, Florida, driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck, died as the result of injuries she sustained during a two-vehicle collision that occurred at 7:50 am, on Tuesday morning, June 18, 2024.
The driver of the second vehicle, a Dodge Journey sport utility vehicle (SUV), was a 26 year-old woman, also from Crystal River, who suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Ford Ranger pickup truck was traveling west on County Road 488 (W. Dunnellon Road) in Dunnellon, while the Dodge Journey SUV was traveling east on County Road 488. West of North Gatlen Avenue, the woman driving the Ford Ranger pickup truck entered the eastbound lane in an attempt to pass other traffic and collided nearly head-on with the Dodge Journey SUV.
After the impact, the Ford Ranger pickup truck rotated and came to rest along the south shoulder of the roadway. The Dodge Journey SUV also rotated onto the south shoulder and overturned.
The 27 year-old Crystal River woman driving the Ford Ranger pickup truck was transported to an area hospital where she later expired from injuries she suffered during the collision.
