Sept. 3, Homosassa crash, on CR 491 at CR 480, results in death of Inverness woman & serious injuries to Spring Hill man

Citrus County, Florida - A two-vehicle traffic crash in Homosassa, Florida at 2:44 pm on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 3, resulted in the death of a 61 year-old Inverness, FL woman and serious injuries to an 83 year-old Spring Hill, FL man who was the driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash. The second vehicle carried a 79 year-old female passenger, also from Spring Hill, who received minor injuries in the crash.

The press release stated that each three passengers of the two vehicles involved in the crash, both sedans, were wearing a seatbelt.

The crash occurred on County Road 491 (S. Lecanto Hwy.), just east of County Road 480 (W. Oak Park Blvd.). The first vehicle, driven by the Inverness woman killed in the crash, was traveling east on CR 480, approaching CR 491, while the second vehicle was traveling north on CR 491, approaching CR 480. 

From the stop sign on CR 480 at the intersection with CR 491, the Inverness woman traveled onto CR 491 and into the path of the Spring Hill Man's vehicle, and the two vehicle collided.

After the impact, the Inverness woman's vehicle traveled in a northeasterly direction onto the east shoulder of CR 491, where it went into a ditch and then collided with a tree before coming to rest. 

The Spring Hill man's vehicle also rotated in a northeastly direction, then traveled onto the east shoulder of CR 491 and into a ditch where it came to rest.

The Inverness woman was transported to an area hospital where she later expired from injuries she suffered during the crash.
