Levy County, Florida - A 74 year-old woman from Morriston, Florida died as the result of being struck by a pickup truck while she was riding a bicycle on SE County Road 326, at 10:41 a.m. on Tuesday morning, February 6, 2024.
The woman was riding the bicycle, traveling east on SE County Road 326, east of Wolf Arbor Road, when a pickup truck driven by a 92 year-old man from Gulf Hammock, Florida, also traveling east on SE County Road 326, approached the woman from behind, and for unknown reasons, failed to observe the woman on her bicycle within the eastbound travel lane. This resulted in the right front of the pickup truck colliding into the rear of the bicycle, ejecting the woman from the bicycle onto the grass shoulder of the roadway. The woman was pronounced deceased on the scene of the incident. She was not wearing a helmet, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The elderly driver carried a passenger, a 67 year-old woman, also from Gulf Hammock, neither of whom was injuried during the crash; each was wearing a seatbelt when the incident occurred.
