Crystal River, Florida - A three-vehicle traffic crash that occurred at 12:20 pm on Friday afternoon, January 26, 2024, resulted in the death of a 70 year-old man from Homosassa, Florida.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Homosassa man was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle, traveling north on U.S. Highway 19, approaching the intersection of State Road 44 (W. Gulf to Lake Hwy.) in the right turn lane. Although he was in the right turn lane, he failed to make a right turn, to travel east onto State Road 44, and continued straight. The motorcycle traveled over the cement median and collided into the left rear of a GMC Canyon compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) driven by a 62 year-old woman from Crystal River, traveling west on State Road 44, approaching the intersection of U.S. Highway 19 in the inside left turn lane.
The motorcycle continued its movement and collided with the right front of a Ford pickup truck, driven by a 60 year old man from Crystal River, who was traveling behind the SUV (facing west on State Road 44 in the inside left turn lane).
The Homosassa man was transported to an area hospital where he later expired from injuries suffered during the crash.
Neither of the other drivers was injured during the crash. None of the three drivers carried a passenger.
