Motorcyclist killed in Floral City, FL New Year's Eve crash; the other driver charged with DUI manslaughter
Citrus County, Florida - A traffic crash that occurred in Floral City, Florida at 4:38 pm on December 31, 2023, resulted in the death of a motorcycle driver, and the arrest of the other driver, 27 year-old Tristen Alexander Melichar of Floral C'ity, Florida, who was determined to be impaired. He was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol troopers, charged with driving under the influence (DUI) manslaughter and transported to the Citrus County Detention Facility in Lecanto, Florida.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Mr. Melichar was driving a Dodge Caravan, traveling south on Old Floral City Road. The motorcyclist, a 45 year-old man from Inverness, Florida, was driving a Suzuki motorcycle, traveling north on Old Floral City Road. Just south of Evergreen Loop, the Dodge Caravan crossed the center line and collided with the motorcycle.
The motorcyclist, whose name was not revealed due to Marcy's Law, suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.
Mr. Melichar was not injured during the crash.
