Williston, Florida - A three-vehicle crash at 8:45 am, Monday morning, December 11, 2023, resulted in the death of a 71 year-old man, serious injuries to the 23 year-old female driver whose actions caused the crash, and no injuries to the third driver, a 59 year-old man, whose vehicle was struck as the result of the collision of the other two vehicles.
The crash occurred in Williston, on State Road 121, 1 mile north of County Road 335.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the 23 year-old woman was driving a sport utility vehicle
(SUV), traveling north on State Road 121, and attempted to pass a vehicle in front of her, also traveling north, a tractor-trailer rig, driven by the 59 year-old man.
As the woman attempted to pass the tractor-trailer, she failed to observe, in time to avoid a collision, the 71 year-old man's sedan that was traveling south in the oncoming, southbound lane. As a result, the left front of the woman's SUV struck the left front of the man's sedan, within the southbound lane. As a result of the collision, the SUV rotated, and its rear section struck the left side tractor tandems of the tractor-trailer rig.
The driver of the sedan was pronounced deceased on the scene of the crash, and the driver of the SUV was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida with incapacitating injuries.
All three drivers are Williston residents; each was the sole occupant of their vehicle. A press release stated that the driver of the sedan was not wearing a seatbelt, but the other two drivers were.
