A 74 year-old man from Morriston, Florida died as the result of a three-vehicle traffic crash that occurred at 9:23 am, Thursday morning, December 7, 2023 in Levy County, Florida on U.S. Hwy. 41 at County Road 323 in the Morriston/Williston, Florida area.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the Morriston man was driving a sedan, traveling west on County Road 323, and had stopped for a stop sign at the intersection of U. S. Hwy. 41, but then proceeded into the northbound lane of U.S. Hwy. 41 into the path of a truck with a flat-bed trailer hauling a tree, that was traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 41, approaching Sounty Road 323, being driven by a 65 year-old man from Micanopy, Florida, who had right of way.

As a result, the right front of the tractor struck the left front fender of the Morriston man's sedan, which caused the tractor trailer to swerve. As a result, the left front of the tractor trailer struck the left front of a third vehicle, a sedan driven by a 65 year-old woman from Morriston, Florida, who was traveling south on U.S. Hwy. 41, stopped in the left turn lane at the intersection, waiting for traffic to pass to turn left onto County Road 323. 

The Morriston man was transported to HCA Hospital Ocala in Ocala, Florida, where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured in the crash, and the woman from Morriston received minor injuries. According to the FHP press release, all three drivers wore a seatbelt and none carried a passenger.
