Groundbreaking ceremony held for widening of US 41 in Inverness

Inverness, Florida - On Thursday morning, November 30, 2023, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Inverness for a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) project, the widening of a one-mile section of US 41 (SR 45) in Inverness.

The ceremony included a presentation of colors by the Citrus High School ROTC Color Guard, remarks by Citrus County and City of Inverness officials and FDOT District 7 Secretary David W. Gwynn, P.E., and a ceremonial groundbreaking by shovel-weilding officials.

Details

US 41 will be widened from a two-lane roadway to a four-lane divided roadway, with bike lanes and sidewalks - from SR 44 (W. Main Street) to south of the bridge over the Withlacoochee State Trail.
 
Work began October 2, 2023, and the project is expected to be commpleted by summer 2025 at a cost of $21.6 million. The contractor is Watson Civil Construction, Inc.
 
New traffic signals will be installed at a realigned intersection of US 41 / Montgomery Avenue / Zephyr Street and at the US 41 intersection at the Inverness Regional shopping center (located at 1440 to 1660 US 41 North).


Signal upgrades will be made at the US 41 / SR 44 intersection.

The improvements on this project include:
      • Adding one lane in each direction (north / south) of travel.
      • Adding a median separation.
      • Adding street lighting to all signalized intersections.
      • Providing bicycle lanes adjacent to travel lanes in each direction (north / south) of travel.
      • Providing sidewalks on both sides of the roadway.
      • Pedestrian safety upgrades at intersections.
      • Adding a dedicated left turn lane for the southbound traffic going to Inverness Middle School.
      • Providing a shared use path to connect sidewalks to the Withlacoochee State Trail at the north end of the project. The Withlacoochee State Trail will not be impacted by this project.
