One dies, one critically injured as result of crash on SR 200 near CR 484 in Ocala, FL
An 89 year-old man from Dunnellon, Florida was critically injured and a 43 year-old woman from Ocala, Florida was fatally injured as a result of a two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred in Marion County, Florida at 7:30 am on Friday, September 8, 2023. The crash occurred on State Road 200, south of County Road 484, in Ocala, Florida.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, both drivers were driving sport utility vehicles (SUVs). The 89 year-old man from Dunnellon was traveling south in the southbound lanes of State Road 200, and the 43 year-old woman from Dunnellon was traveling north in the northbound lanes of State Road 200, when the driver from Dunnellon may have suffered a medical incident that caused his vehicle to veer in a southeasterly direction into the northbound lanes of State Road 200 - and into the path of travel of the Ocala woman's vehicle - which resulted in the front of the Dunnellon man's vehicle colliding with the front of the Ocala woman's vehicle, within the northbound lanes of State Road 200.
After the collision, the Dunnellon man's vehicle rotated clockwise, while traveling southeast, then came to rest facing southwest, obstructing the northbound lanes of State Road 200, and the Ocala woman's vehicle was redirected into a counterclockwise rotation, while traveling rearward in a southwesterly direction, across the southbound lanes and onto the west grass shoulder before coming to rest facing northeast.
Both drivers were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles, and both were wearing a seatbelt.
The man from Dunnellon was transported to a hospital in critical condition. The female driver from Ocala was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased at 8:03 am, the following day, September 9, 2023.
