Chiefland (Levy County), Florida - A 35 year-old man from Pinellas Park, Florida was fatally injured, and a 27 year-old man from Chiefland was seriously injured, as the result of a two-vehicle traffic crash that occurred on U.S. Highway 19, at the intersection of 153rd Lane, in Chiefland, on Monday afternoon, July 10, at 4:40 pm.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the PInellas Park man was driving a sedan, pulling out of a business driveway at 153rd Lane and was crossing the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 19, failing to yield right of way to the Chiefland man, also driving a sedan, who was traveling north on U.S. Highway 19.
The Pinellas Park man's sedan entered into the path of the Chiefand man's sedan, causing the front of the Chiefland man's sedan to strike the left side of the Pinellas Park man's sedan.
As a result of the collision, the Chiefland man 's vehicle began rotating in a clockwise direction, struck a median marker with its left side, and came to rest in the grassy median, facing south. The collision redirected the Pinellas Park man 's sedan onto the east shoulder, and it came to rest, facing east.
The press release stated that the Chiefland man was wearing a seatbelt, but it was unknown at the time of the press release if the Pinellas Park man was wearing his.
