Marion County, Florida - An 83 year-old Ocala man died as the result of a three vehicle traffic crash that occurred in Ocala, Florida at 7:10 am, June 13, at the intersection of State Road 200 and SW 80 Avenue.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the man who died was driving a sedan, traveling north on SW 80 Avenue, when he ran a red traffic light and traveled into the path of a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that was traveling east on State Road 200 - driven by a 57 year-old woman from Ocala. The right side of the Ocala man's sedan was struck by the front of the SUV. The impact caused the SUV to rotate, and the right side of the SUV was struck by the front of a pickup truck - driven by a 38 year-old man from Hernando, Florida - that was also traveling east on State Road 200
After the collisions, all three vehicles came to rest, obstructing the intersection.
The driver of sedan, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained critical injuries during the crash and was transported to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital (formerly Ocala Regional Medical Center) where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff.
The drivers of the SUV and pickup truck, who were both wearing seatbelts, suffered minor injuries during the crash and were transported to area hospitals for treatment.
