Chiefland man driving motorcycle seriously injured in Cross City crash

A 51 year-old man from Chiefland, Florida was seriously injured in a traffic crash that occurred at 3:30 pm Tuesday afternoon, April 18, 2023, while he was driving a motorcycle on NE 264th Avenue in Cross City (Dixie County), Florida.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the Chiefland man on the motorcycle attempted to pass several cars while traveling on a curve. The press release stated that he entered onto the shoulder, crossed a dirt driveway, and as he re-entered the roadway, he sideswiped a sport utility vehicle (SUV).
The impact caused the motorcycle to rotate in a clockwise direction and overturn multiple times. During the overturning, the driver, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle. He was transported to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Florida with serious injuries.
The driver of the SUV, a 32 year-old woman from Old Town, Florida, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured during the crash, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.
