Homosassa man driving motorcyle dies after crash on CR 495 in Crystal River, FL
A 33 year-old Homosassa man died as the result of a two vehicle traffic crash that occurred early Saturday morning, April 1, 2023, at 2:00 am.
According to a press release by the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the Homosassa man was driving a motorcycle, traveling south on County Road 495 (N. Citrus Ave.), north of Far Hills Lane, and while negotiating a left curve in the roadway, overtook a sedan ahead of him that was also traveling south on County Road 495, and collided with its rear. The sedan was driven by a 27 year-old woman from Dunnellon, Florida
After the impact, the motorcycle overturned and ejected the rider, who was wearing a helmet, before traveling to rest along the east shoulder of the roadway, while the sedan came to rest along the west shoulder.
The motorcycle driver was transported to an area hospital, where he expired approximately six hours later from injuries suffered during the crash. The driver of the sedan, who was wearing a seabelt, suffered minor injuries.
