According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, on Friday, March 24, 2023, Troy Michael Bronson Kinkade, of Plant City, Florida, now 28 years-old, was sentenced by a Sumter County, Florida judge on charges related to a March 6, 2018 traffic crash that killed 61 year-old Kristi Reed of Homosassa, Florida. The crash occurred early Tuesday morning, March 6, about 5:59 am, in Sumter County, Florida as Kinkade was traveling at a high rate of speed as he fled from a FHP tooper and collided with Ms. Reed's vehicle, a 2006 Toyota Camry.
Kinkade was sentenced to serve time with the Florida Department of Corrections for the following charges, with all counts to run concurrent (at the same time):
• 30 years as a habitual violent felony offender for murder
• life as a habitual violent felony offender for DUI manslaughter with leaving the scene
• life as a habitual violent felony offender for vehicular homicide with leaving the scene
• 5 years for driving while license suspended or revoked involving a death
• 5 years for fleeing from law enforcement
Addording to the FHP, at the time of the crash, a trooper was conducting speed enforcement in the median of Interstate 75, at the Sumter and Marion county line, and clocked a 2017 Nissan Altima, driven by Kinkade, traveling south at 92 mph, and as the trooper attempted to overtake Mr. Kinkaid to conduct a traffic stop, Kinkaid abruptly exited Interstate 75 at State Road 44, and failed to stop at the red traffic signal at the same time Ms. Reed, who was traveling east on State Road 44, was passing through the intersection under a green traffic signal. The two vehicles collided, rotated and both came to rest along the southern grass shoulder of the intersection. After the crash, Kinkaid exited his vehicle and fled on foot. The trooper gave chase and apprehended Kinkade.
Ms. Reed expired from her injuries at the scene of the crash. According to reports, Ms. Reed, who left behind a son and three grandchildren, was born and raised in Homosassa, where she was a member of the First Baptist Church; she worked for 20 years with Circle K.
Kinkade and his three passengers, then ages 35, 17, and 33, all received minor injuries. Kinkaid was transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Florida, and his passengers were all transported to Leesburg Regional Medical Center in Leesburg, FL.
Upon his release from the hospital, Mr. Kinkaid was arrested and booked ino the Sumter County Detention Center in Bushnell, Florida on charges of driving under the influence manslaughter, vehicular homicide, driving while license suspended involving a death, and leaving the scene of a crash involving a death. He was also arrested on a Hillsborough County, FL warrant for resisting an officer with violence and having no valid driver license.
