The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) and the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) are urging motorists to “Stay as the Scene" of a crash rather than "hit and run."

"Stay at the Scene" is the FHP's newest campaign. In 2022, there were over 104,895 hit and run crashes statewide. The "Stay at the Scene" campaign aims to reduce the number of hit and run traffic crashes by educating drivers, so they know their responsibilities if involved in a crash - and also the consequences of leaving the scene.

If you're involved in a crash:
        • Be calm and check to see if you're okay.
        • If possible, move your vehicle to the side of the road if anyone is or may be injured, or if a vehicle is inoperable.
        • If there are no injuries or major property damage, gather information:  Obtain the name of the other driver or drivers, and driver's license, insurance and tag information. Take photos of the vehicles and the informaion from the other driver or drivers if you can't write it down, and file a report online.
